What is ‘Rebound tenderness’ ?
Clinical sign in which there is pain upon removal of pressure rather than application of pressure to the abdomen.
- Pain on application of pressure to the abdomen – abdominal tenderness.
- Pain upon removal of pressure rather than application of pressure to the abdomen – Rebound tenderness
- Rebound tenderness – Indicative of peritonitis.
- Clinical conditions with rebound tenderness in the right lower quadrant – Ex: appendicitis, ulcerative colitis
