Myeloblast with Auer rod

Large, crystalline cytoplasmic inclusion bodies

Observed in myeloid blast cells in cases of :

  1. Acute myeloid leukemia,
  2. Acute promyelocytic leukemia,
  3. High-grade myelodysplastic syndromes
  4. Myeloproliferative disorders
  5. Composed of fused lysosomes and rich in lysosomal enzymes,

Auer rods are azurophilic and can resemble needles, commas
