Acute kidney injury (AKI), previously termed “acute renal failure” (ARF), is a common and serious disease-
– Hospital-acquired AKI (HAAKI)
– Community-acquired AKI (CAAKI)
Causes of acute kidney injury can be divided into three categories :
Prerenal – caused by decreased renal perfusion, often because of volume depletion,
Intrinsic Renal – caused by a process within the kidneys,
Postrenal – caused by inadequate drainage of urine OR Obstruction in outflow tract distal to the kidneys
CA-AKI patients showed less severe clinical manifestations and a better prognosis in comparison to HA-AKI patients
