‘Malar flush’ in Mitral valve stenosis
Mechanism
- Malar flush – because of vasodilation (vascular stasis) in the malar area.
- CO2 retention- causes vasodilation of arterioles in the cheeks.
- It can also be associated with other conditions, such as lupus, polycythemia vera and homocystinuria
“mitral facies” of rheumatic mitral stenosis – pink-purplish patches with telangiectasias over the malar eminences
