• Obliquely orientated fibres of the septum – called ‘Lion of the Right ventricle’
• RV function is determined by the interaction of its lateral wall and the obliquely orientated fibres of the septum
• MRI studies confirm that the primary events involving septal muscle are chamber shortening and lengthening caused by twisting and thickening that produce ejection, and untwisting and lengthening for suction filling.
• RV ejection and filling mostly depends on – RV longitudinal function which is due to the septal twisting and untwisting.
• Right ventricle must rely upon this intrinsic twisting function of oblique septal fibers to maintain output
