What is ‘Mitral facies’?
Mitral facies is a distinctive facial appearance associated with mitral stenosis [ Severe mitral stenosis]
Features – Rosy cheeks, whilst the rest of the face has a bluish tinge due to cyanosis.
Mechanism
- Low cardiac output produces – vasoconstriction
- Peripheral cyanosis – lips, the tip of nose, and the cheeks.
- Malar flush – because of vasodilation (vascular stasis) in the malar area.
