- Amnion and chorion, both are part of the extraembryonic membranes
- The amnion is a thin but tough sac of membrane that covers an embryo. It is present in the embryonic development of reptiles, birds, and mammals. However, it is not present in the development for amphibians and fish.
- The amnion comprises of mesoderm and ectoderm while the chorion includes the trophoblast and the mesoderm
- Stromal matrix of amnion shows a marked suppression of proinflammatory cytokines, IL-1α, and IL-1β expression. The amnion has been described as antiangiogenic and bacteriostatic, as well as having analgesic properties.
