Downey type I cells
Downey type I cells are slightly larger than normal lymphocytes (figure, A, inset), with indented or so-called bean-shaped nuclei. They also have reduced cytoplasm—often containing a few azurophilic granules and vacuoles.
Downey type II cells
Downey type II cells are the most frequently observed Downey cells; they are larger with abundant pale cytoplasm and often abut or partly surround adjacent red blood cells
