Beck’s triad [cardiology]
Beck’s triad [cardiology]
Components of Beck’s triad [cardiology]
Associated with – acute cardiac tamponade
- Hypotension with a narrowed pulse pressure
- Jugular venous distention (JVD)
- Muffled heart sounds
Hypotension –
pericardial fluid accumulation inside the pericardial sac, which decreases the maximum size of the ventricles
lower EDV (End Diastolic Volume) which reduces stroke volume that causes hypotension
Jugular venous distention (JVD)
Reduced diastolic filling of the right ventricle, due to pressure from the adjacent expanding pericardial sac.
Muffled heart sounds
Fluid surrounding the heart
