Banding Techniques
Staining/banding.
What is Banding Technique?
Chromosome banding is an essential technique used in chromosome karyotyping to identify normal and abnormal chromosomes.
What are the types of banding?
a) G-banding .
b) Q-banding
c) C-banding
d) R-banding
Chromosomes have the property of forming alternating dark and light bands.
Fixed metaphase preparation is stained by one of the following banding techniques: | |||
1 | G-banding | Giemsa banding | Most commonly used method |
2 | Q-banding | Quinacrine banding | Used to demonstrate bands along chromosomes. |
3 | C-banding | Constitutive banding | Demonstrate constitutive heterochromatin. |
4 | R-banding | Reverse staining Giemsa banding |
